The Players:

  • Peter: a 5-time winner of the trophy; The Risk Master

  • Steve: perhaps the only one who could prove a threat to Pete’s might– if he played more games; The Occasionally Present
  • Jim: he, too, has never won the trophy, but his unpredictable nature has caught many off-guard; The Hated One

The Game: Risk 2210

Though we all started at equal footing in our quest for world domination, we five did not all end whole and sturdy.  Alan’s strategic thinking allowed him to take over Australia, and after the first year of war Pete nearly had Africa.  Away from Pete and Alan, Jim seemed to prosper; the oceans swiftly fell to his might.

Steve, however, suffered under the strain of trying to follow in the footsteps of the other three generals; he had much hardship in trying to take over South America, despite already having control over half of it.  His claim to South America was oft thwarted by the likes of Alan.  Though he eventually took control, Steve would never be a world power despite his bravado.  The look on the elder generals’ faces said it all.

The generals Gary, Jim, and Alan fought over the oceans, whether to accumulate those elusive “points” or merely to express their desire of world dominance is unclear, but it was Jim whose grip held firm… for most of the game, that is.  From Year Three onward, Jim’s hold on first place seemed unbreakable, especially after his near complete control of the moon.  Though there was much shifting of power in the final years of conflict, it did not end well for some people.

In Year Five Alan sent up nukes to crush Jim’s moon territories… and succeeded!  However, the scum-bucket Jim hid most of his people underground and with the right cards his people emerged, like cockroaches, and swarmed the entirety of the moon.  The moon was his completely.  Not only was he strong above the earth, but Europe was a hotbed for his puissant soldiers.

In his haste to send off his nukes, Pete miscalculated his trajectory and his weapons deployed over South America instead of Europe, crippling the ever so dainty military might of Steve.  Pete decided to seize upon this opportunity and attempted to invade South America, but Steve was a crafty little bugger and orchestrated a Cease Fire that ended with the shattering of Pete’s dreams of conquest.

After finally yielding to Jim’s prowess in the oceans, Gary turned toward the comfort of solid ground—North America.  He became immediately concerned with the riffraff lounging about these lands (namely Pete) and sought domination of the continent.  Gary proved his military might in the complete takeover of North America, but it was too late.  Jim had grown too strong for the punishment of mere mortals.

All hail Jim!
